Gingivitis is the inflammation of the gums (gingiva). This gum disease occurs when a person has poor dental hygiene, which results in red swollen gums that bleed easily when teeth are brushed or flossed.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><!--more--><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">Gingivitis is a periodontal disease that can progress into periodontitis if left untreated. In extreme cases, teeth can also eventually fall out.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">Individuals that have gingivitis typically have red and puffy gums. The plaque appears between and around the teeth, and can eventually lead to destruction of gingival tissue.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">If plaque is not removed correctly it can cause tartar near the gums \u2013 this is a lot more difficult to remove.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Other Causes From Gingivitis<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">* Changes in hormones.
