Dr. Dr. John Ludu, DDS

Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Dr. Ludu first dreamed of becoming a professional hockey player in the National Hockey League! However, due to his passion for helping others and making a positive impact in people’s lives, he decided a career in dentistry would be a better fit for him. He’s provided countless services for communities in various states, including Arizona, Massachusetts, New York, and New Jersey, before settling down in Washington State. Today, he remains just as passionate about his work as the day he started, and he loves meeting new patients as well as delivering exceptional care for beautiful smiles.

Dr. Ludu began his career by attending the University of British Columbia for his bachelor’s in biochemistry/minor in chemistry. He then went to Tufts University School of Dental Medicine to earn his dental doctorate—where he also met his wife! After graduating, he’s undergone extensive surgical training at Peninsula Hospital in Far Rockaway, New York as well as continuing education courses in various topics, such as endodontics and implantology. With well over three decades of experience, he’s a proud member of several organizations, including the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the Washington State Dental Association, and the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine.

If you don’t see him at the office treating pearly whites, Dr. Ludu typically spends much of his time with his family and loved ones. He especially enjoys attending his children’s athletic events, and he often hangs out with friends to make great memories!

These people are absolutely amazing! We are from Charlotte, NC and were here visiting our son who is in the army. My temporary crown popped off Thursday night 10/27 and I called their office pleading for help. They squeezed me in the next morning and did an amazing job repairing the temporary crown. They treated me like I had been a patient for years and made me feel very welcome. The entire process took about 45 minutes and was told there was no charge. Thanks so much to the entire staff!!!

Frequently Asked Questions

You want to make the right decision when it comes to choosing a dentist near Nisqually for you and your family. This is why our team at Dupont Family Dentistry is here to provide the answers you need. We know it can require much time and effort to research all the different aspects of a good dental practice as well as get the answers you want as it concerns general oral health and hygiene. Before you go any further, consider reviewing our frequently asked questions listed below and call us if you would like to discuss any of them further.

How much does it cost to get a tooth pulled without insurance?

Naturally, when you can, you want to use dental insurance to help pay for your oral healthcare costs. However, if you do not have a private plan, you can expect that your tooth extraction will cost between $150 and $400. This is largely based on the geographic location of the dentist’s office as well as the state of your overall health, as you might need additional treatments before or after having a tooth removed.

Additional fees may be included if the tooth in question must be extracted surgically and if you require any form of sedation. You can expect that if your teenager needs to have their wisdom teeth removed, it will likely cost much more because of the necessity of bringing in an oral surgeon in certain situations.

How can I make a same-day appointment with a dentist?

The first thing you need to do is to call and speak to a member of the dental team. Sending an email may not get you a response as quickly as you would like. You will then need to explain the situation so that a team member can determine how quickly they can get you in. While some dental offices provide a separate operatory for emergency appointments, a scheduled time must be provided to ensure that your meeting with the dentist will occur on time.

While the goal of any emergency appointment is to help you out of pain, it may be required that you return to have the finalized form of treatment performed on another day. There are instances, however, when more advanced treatment can be completed during the same appointment.

Where can I find the best place to get dental work done?

You will need to determine what it is you are looking for in dental practice. You will also want to decide what kind of treatment it is that you need. As you contemplate how far you want to drive, whether a specialist or general dentist is preferred, or if seeing someone in-network matters to your wallet, it is important to remember that narrowing down your criteria will help in the decision-making process.

You can also go a step further by requesting a tour of the office before scheduling an appointment. This will allow you to meet the staff, view the operatories, and get a feel for the environment and vibe. Not to mention, you can always read patient reviews online and learn more about the dentist and staff by reading their bios on their website.

What kind of education is required to be a dentist?

If you are considering a career in dentistry, you should know that it is essential for all dentists in the United States to have a Doctor of Dental Medicine or a Doctor of Dental Surgery from an accredited dental school (67 in total).

You will also need a bachelor’s degree to be accepted into a dental school as well as high math and sciences scores. The duration of dental school typically lasts 3 years and requires both classroom and hands-on learning.

If you decide that you want to pursue one of the 12 specializations recognized by the American Dental Association (i.e., pediatrics, endodontics, orthodontics, prosthodontics, etc.), you will need an additional 3+ years of schooling and training.

When finished and licensed, you will be required to complete continuing education course hours each year to maintain your license.
